What happens during interphase?
Organelles are replicated, more ATP
What happens to chromosomes in interphase?
They’re replicated
What happens during prophase?
The nuclear envelope breaks down, the nucleolus disappears and centrioles move to opposite poles , forming spindle fibres
What happens to chromosomes in prophase?
They condense and become shorter and thicker - now visible
What happens during metaphase?
Chromosomes line up and attached to spindles by centromere
What happens to chromosomes during metaphase?
Maximally condensed
What happens during anaphase?
Chromosomes break into two sister chromatids as the spindles contract and pull apart by the centromere
What happens to chromosomes during anaphase?
Sister chromatids pulled apart
What happens during telophase?
Nuclear envelope reforms around the chromosomes resulting in two nuclei
What happens to chromosomes during telophase?
They decondense into thin long chromosomes - no longer visible
What happens during cytokinesis?
The cytoplasm divides
