Pathophysiology
The study of how diseases disrupt normal bodily functions, particularly in relation to hematologic disorders.
Epidemiology
The study of how often diseases occur in different groups of people and why.
Anticoagulant
A substance that prevents blood clotting, used in treating and managing blood clots.
Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
A condition where a blood clot forms in a deep vein, typically in the legs, which can lead to more serious complications.
Hemorrhage
Excessive bleeding, which can be internally or externally, often requiring urgent medical attention.
Iron Deficiency Anemia
A condition characterized by a lack of iron leading to insufficient hemoglobin production, causing fatigue and weakness.
Vitamin Deficiency Anemia
Anemia resulting from a lack of essential vitamins such as B12 or folate, often leading to neurological and psychological symptoms.
Sickle Cell Anemia
An inherited blood disorder that causes red blood cells to be misshapen, leading to various complications like pain and fatigue.
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)
A type of cancer characterized by the overproduction of lymphoblasts in the bone marrow, affecting the normal function of blood cells.
Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML)
A type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow, caused by a genetic mutation involving the Philadelphia chromosome.
Clinical Presentation
The observable symptoms and signs exhibited by a patient as a result of a disease or condition.
Client Education
Instruction provided to patients regarding their health, strategies for managing conditions, or understanding treatments and medications.
Nursing Process
A systematic method of providing care that includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
