This was when they financially supported Eastern European countries and discouraged trade with the US.

Berlin Wall

This divided Berlin into East and West Berlin

Living standards in West Berlin were better as wages were significantly higher, so many people from East Germany left through Berlin to go to the West.
So, Khrushchev ordered for a wall to be built to fix this issue

Describe the Berlin Airlift (1948)

When Western allies provided 2m people with necessities of life.

-5 tonnes of supplies were dropped

-Food, coal and oil

-Lasted over 100 days

-Ended on 5th may 1949

NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) (1949)

-USA, France and 9 other western countries joined to form NATO

-They agreed that iff one was attacked, all members would assist them

Warsaw Pact (1955)

-Soviet Union formed a communist defence military alliance, equivalent to NATO

-It was led by the Soviet Union and included the Eastern Bloc
