Step 1
Place a known mass of water in the calorimeter and find the initial temperature of the water (θf)
Step 2
Set up apparatus as shown
Step 3
Turn on switch and timer simultaneously
Step 4
Keep the current constant, adjusting the rheostat if necessary
Step 5
When the temperature has risen by 2℃, turn off the switch and timer simultaneously and note the final temperature of the water.
Step 6
Repeat steps 1-5 having replaced the water in the calorimeter with the same mass of water as before, with the same starting temperature but increase the current.
Step 7
Repeat step 6 four more times
Step 8
Plot a graph of Δθ Vs I2 and find the slope
