where does conduction primarily take place in
solids
how does conduction work
As the solid is heated, its particles gain kinetic energy. This means that they move around faster and collide with the other particles. This process repeats over and over again so that energy is effectively passed along the object from one particle to the next. Thermal energy is being transferred through this conduction process.
What is convection
Convection is the transfer of heat in a fluid, where the hotter fluid is less dense, and so rises above the colder fluid. If the heat source is at the bottom of the fluid, this can create a convection current.
