What is aerobic respiration?
The break down of glucose to produce ATP using oxygen
What are the 4 stages of aerobic respiration?
Glycolysis, link reaction, krebs cycle, electron transport chain
Where does glycolysis happen?
In the cytoplasm
Where does link reaction and krebs cycle happen?
In the matrix of mitochondria
Where does the electron transport chain happen?
In the inner mitochondrial membrane
What molecule does glycolysis start with?
Glucose
What is glucose turned into in glycolysis?
Hexose bisphosphate, where 2 ATP molecules are needed for the phosphorylation of glucose
What is hexose bisphosphate broken into?
2 triose phosphate molecules
What are the 2 triose phosphate molecules turned into and using what?
Triose phosphate molecules each lose 1 hydrogen by enzyme dehydrogenase to form pyruvate. These hydrogens are picked up by NAD (turned into NADH). 2 ATP molecules are also made per pyruvate by Pi being added to ADP
What is the net ATP made from glycolysis?
2
What is the net NAD reduced from glycolysis?
2
