12 hours of class time to complete, design/implementation of a program to solve a problem, enable innovation, or express creativity

be able to explain how computers work, how computing enhances problem-solving skills, and communicate these concepts effectively to others

prerequisite:

algebra one

programming:

write python code, scratch, several diff. languages used

attendance:

need a pass for every late, come with homework from missed class done, absent on test- take it the day you come back, zero if you skip on a test day, unexcused absence reduces quarter grade

class policies:

be positive, collaborate, be respectful and responsible, work independently and cooperatively, bring notebook and and pencil to class, no personal devices

daily work:

all assignments on google classroom, skeleton notes provided, need to fill them in, active participation necessary, review notes before attempting assignments, show all work, record all steps

homework:

homework is assigned daily and checked sporadically, all unfinished classwork is homework

late work:

accepted up to 7 days after due date, 5 pts taken away for each day late, max 70% at 7th day, marked as M in aspen, email location of submission and assignment title

grading:

point based & weighted, participation 30% of q grade, assessment 20% (written, challenges, presentations, explanation of code), project 50%, excused absence on the day of an assessment or project due date, you have the number of school days you were absent to make up the work and if you cant then make it up in the testing center during class, half letter grade deduction for each dsy not made up, skipping is a zero, at least 2 days in advance notice before tests, coding assessments based off of correctness and style

academic integrity:

no copying, cheating, ai only allowed when permitted by teacher, sources used must be cited ("Generated by ChatGPT, 2025" or "Idea explained in [YouTube Video Title, Channel Name]"), support not replace work, no collaboration on tests, quizzes, and the create performance task, when in doubt ask

extra help:

ask for help, before or after school or during prep periods, email 24 hours in advance, come to extra help with notes, questions, and classwork, extra help day of or day before for quick questions
