Medical Information Management & Processing System (MIMPS)
System formerly known as Picture Archiving & Communication System (PACS) used for storing and managing medical images.
Input Devices
Devices used to provide data to a computer, including keyboards, mice, microphones, barcode readers, touchscreens, and image scanners.
Output Devices
Devices that receive data from a computer, such as monitors, printers, and speakers.
Binary Code
The basic machine language consisting of 1s and 0s that computers use to process data.
Bit
The smallest unit of data in computing, represented as a 1 or 0.
Byte
A group of 8 bits, which can represent one alphanumeric character.
Kilobytes (KB)
A unit of digital information equal to 1024 bytes.
Megabytes (MB)
A unit of digital information equal to 1024 kilobytes.
Gigabytes (GB)
A unit of digital information equal to 1024 megabytes.
Terabytes (TB)
A unit of digital information equal to 1024 gigabytes.
Motherboard
The main printed circuit board (PCB) that houses the CPU, memory, and other essential components of a computer.
Central Processing Unit (CPU)
The primary component of a computer that performs most of the processing inside a computer.
BIOS
Basic Input/Output System that initializes computer hardware during the booting process.
Random-Access Memory (RAM)
Temporary storage that holds data and programs currently in use by the CPU.
Network Interface Card (NIC)
Hardware that allows a computer to connect to a network.
DICOM
Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine, a standard for transmitting, storing, and sharing medical images.
Health Level 7 (HL7)
A set of international standards for transfer of clinical and administrative data between software applications.
PACS
Picture Archiving and Communication System, used to store and manage medical images.
Teleradiology
The transmission of radiological images over a distance for interpretation and diagnosis.
Electronic Health Record (EHR)
A digital version of a patient’s paper chart, containing medical history and clinical insights.
