Where is the thorax located?
Top part of your body, separated from the loeer part of your body by the diaphragm
What are the lungs surrounded by?
The ribcage, which are sourounded by pleural membranes
Where does the air your breath in go through?
The trachea, which splits into two tubes called the bronchi (bronchus separately), going to each lung
What do the bronchi split into?
Even smaller tubes called bronchioles
Where do the bronchioles end?
At small bags called alveoli where gas exchange takes place
What are the alveoli surrounded by?
A network of blood capillaries
What does the blood passing next to the alveoli contain?
Lots of carbon dioxide and little oxygen, as it has returned to the lungs from the rest of the body
Where does the oxygen diffuse from and to?
The alveoli to the blood
Where does carbon dioxide diffuse from and to?
The blood to the alveoli
Where does oxygen diffuse from when they enter body cells?
Red blood cells
Where does carbon dioxide diffuse from when they enter the blood?
Body cells
How do you calculate the breathing rate?
Breaths per minute = number of breaths ÷ number of minutes
