A polar molecule that acts as a common solvent due to its ability to dissolve many substances.
Polarity
Unequal distribution of charge within a molecule that facilitates the ability to dissolve compounds.
Hydration
The process by which water molecules attach to ions, stabilizing them in solution.
Solubility
The ability of a substance to dissolve in a solvent, primarily affected by the attraction among ions and between ions and water.
Electrolyte
A solute that dissolves in water to produce a solution that can conduct electricity.
Strong Acid
An acid that completely dissociates into its ions in solution.
Molarity (M)
A measure of concentration expressed as moles of solute per liter of solution.
Titration
A technique used to determine the concentration of an unknown solution by adding a solution of known concentration.
Oxidation
The process of losing electrons, leading to an increase in oxidation state.
Reduction
The process of gaining electrons, resulting in a decrease in oxidation state.
