Overview
consists of blood, blood vessels, and the heart
also called the cardiovascular system
Blood Vessel Types
are tubular structures that transport blood throughout the body
defined by the direction of blood flow rather than blood type in them or smth else
Arteries → blood is carried away from the heart
Veins → carry blood towards the heart
capillaries → the smallest blood vessels, allow for gas exchange
Structure of the Heart
made of cardiac muscle → involuntary and contracts rhythmically to pump blood (as opposed to smooth muscle and skeletal muscle)
comprises four chambers: the left atrium, the left ventricle, the right atrium, and the right ventricle.
artria recieve blood from outside the heart, and the ventricles receive blood from the atria
valves → prevent backflow and insure uni-directional movement of blood through the heart
functions to pump blood throughout the circulatory system.
Be able to fill out a diagram of this

pulmonary circuit
blood from heart → lungs (capillaries) → heart
systemic circuit
blood from heart → body (system) → heart
