immigration reform (literacy tests): A way to screen out immigrants who were believed to be less educated or capable of adjusting to American society.(Nativists came up w the idea ofc).

eugenics: A scientific movement that was based on the belief that certain traits, such as intelligence, health, and morality, were hereditary, and that society could be improved by encouraging people with "desirable" traits to reproduce while discouraging those with "undesirable" traits.
