what is the aim of the experiment
to measure the wavelength, frequency and speed in a wave using a string
what is step 1
set up apparatus, string or chord attached to vibration generator and hanging mass of about 200 and pulley to pull string taut. Place wooden bridge under string near pulley
what happens in step 2
switch on the vibration generator and adjust bridge until stationary waves clearly observed
what happens in step 3?
measure length of many Half wavelengths divide by the number there is. Double the result for wavelength
what happens in step 4?
no need to work out frequency as frequency = frequency of power supply
what happens in step 5?
calculate speed using wavespeed = frequency x wavelength
what are some hazards, risks and control measure that can be taken into account
cord snapping = damage to eye
use eye protection/ safety screen
