What do you mean by life processes? What are the basic life processes?
Life processes are the basic processes in living organisms necessary for maintaining their life. The basic life processes are:
Nutrition: It is the process of taking food by an organism and it’s utilization by the body for life processes.
Respiration: It is the process by which food is burnt in the cells with the help of oxygen to release energy.
Transportation: It is the process by which food, water, oxygen and waste products are carried from one part of the body to another.
Excretion: It is the process by which waste products are removed from the body
Diffusion is insufficient to meet the oxygen requirements of multicellular organisms like humans. Why?
Diffusion is insufficient to meet the oxygen requirements of multicellular organisms like humans because all the cells of multicellular organisms are not in direct contact with the air and water presenting in the surrounding environment.
What is the criteria that decides whether something is alive?
Movement of various types can be taken as an indication of life. In animals, breathing movement and in plants, growth related movement can be taken as a sign of life.
What are the outside raw materials used by an organism?
Food for obtaining energy
Water for transportation of nutrients and waste materials, and for photosynthesis
Oxygen for respiration and production of energy
Carbon dioxide for photosynthesis
