What is meant when a country develops?
A country becomes wealthier and the quality of life of the citizens improves

Greater job availability, more access to education and healthcare and a more stable government

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Gross National Income (GNI) per capita
What are the issues with using economic indicators to show countries development?
It shows little about healthcare and education and don’t show information about inequality in a country

The value of all goods made in the country
What is meant by Gross National Income (GNI)?
The average wage of a country’s population
How can there be inequality in countries?
As there may be poor people in rich countries and vice versa
What is a big factor affecting a country’s development?
Trade
How do richer countries profit from trade?
They have a greater interdependence due to products they export and they have access to trade blocs so they can trade freely
HIC - imports, exports and tariffs
HICs export manufactured goods that are worth lots of money and set tariffs on imported goods which protects workers in their country
LIC - imports, exports and tariffs
LICs produce primary goods and they don’t sell for much so they remain poor and may have to borrow money, and LICs depend on trade
