Conversion Factors
Relationships used to change a quantity of one unit to an equivalent amount of another unit.
Dimensional Analysis
Problem-solving method that uses conversion factors to change a given quantity to a wanted quantity.
Unit Path
The series of conversion steps followed in going from given to wanted.
Density
Mass per unit volume, calculated using the formula d = \frac{m}{V}.
Density as a Unit Factor
Using density as a conversion factor to convert between mass and volume (e.g., grams to mL) in calculations.
Calculate the number of feet in 72 inches
To determine feet from inches, use the factor: 1 ft / 12 in.
Calculate the number of seconds in 4.6 days
Convert days to seconds using the unit path: days → hours → minutes → seconds.
