What is Shape?
A two-dimensional area that has height and width. can be organic or geometric

A three-dimensional object measured by height, width and depth that can be tangible

The way an object feels to the touch or looks as though it might feel when touched
What is Space (Positive versus Negative)?
Positive Space: recognizable object in the image.
Negative Space: space around the image. the background
What are the types of Balance?
Symmetrical, Asymmetrical, and Radial
What is Symmetrical Balance?
Forms in the two halves of a composition corresponding to one another in shape, size, or placement

The forms on the two halves do not match but are balanced through visual weight

What are the primary colors?
Red, Blue, and Yellow
Why are primary colors called “Primary”?
Pure, basic colors that cannot be made by the combination of any other colors and can be mixed to create all other colors on the color wheel. Equidistant from one another on the color wheel.
What are the secondary colors?
Orange, Green, and Violet
Why are the secondary colors called “secondary”?
They are made by the combination of two primary colors in equal amounts, found between the two primary colors it was made by. All are equidistant.
What are the Tertiary colors?
(Yellow-Orange)(Yellow-Green)(Red-Violet)(Red-Orange)(Blue-Violet)(Blue-Green)
What is a tertiary color?
Made by the mixture of adjoining primary and secondary colors in equal amounts.
What is the difference between warm color schemes and cool color schemes?
Warm Colors (Reds, Oranges, and Yellows) appear friendly and give a feeling of happiness or activity, advance the image, and make objects appear larger.
Cool Colors (Blues, Greens, and Purples) Feeling of quietness and restfulness. appear to recede in the image and can make objects appear smaller.
What is a complementary color scheme? Give an example.
Colors that are directly opposite of one another on the color wheel that are completely different from one another. (Green & Red)
What is a Split-Complementary color scheme? Give an example.
In addition to the base color it uses the two colors adjacent to its compliment. (Yellow, Orange, & Blue)
What is a Triadic color scheme?
Color harmony that consists of three colors equidistant on the color wheel
What is an Analogous color scheme?
Consists of three or more colors that are side-by-side on the color wheel.
What is a Monochromatic color scheme? Give an example
Consists of only one color including tints and shades
What is Etching?
A drawing scratched through a wax-covered or tar-covered metal plate which is then placed in acid that eats away at the areas of metal was exposed
What is Silk Screen?
A print made by forcing ink through a stencil
What is Lithography?
A printing technique in which the image is drawn on a very flat slab of limestone. The idea that grease and water don’t mix.

A means of making prints by creating a raised design on a flat surface.
