Cherokee Nation
A Native American tribe that attempted to establish their own state by adopting European customs, but were forcibly removed after gold was discovered on their land (Trail of Tears).
Xhosa Cattle Killing
A religiously influenced movement of cattle raising that was an attempt to resist European imperialism by killing their economic livelihood of cattle.
Ghost Dance
Religious ceremonies performed in hopes that this traditional dance would cause imperializers to go away.
Economic Imperialism
Imperialism driven by the desire to control economic resources and acquire raw materials for industrial production.
Opium Wars
Wars fought between Britain and China over the opium trade, which Britain used to gain a favorable trade balance, leading to the decline of the Qing Dynasty.
Causes of Migration (Unit 6 Context)
Migration affected by industrialization as people move to cities. Transportation allowed people to move around easier or return back due to coerced labor.
Effects of Migration
In places where people are leaving from the gender roles change as women fill the men's roles. Migrants create ethnic encalves as they face racism.
Chinese Exclusion Act
A law that limited immigration from China.
White Australia Policy
A policy that limited non-white immigration to Australia.
