What is a cell?
The basic structural and functional unit of all living organisms.
What is the function of the nucleus?
Contains genetic material and controls the activities of the cell.
What is the function of the cytoplasm?
The site of chemical reactions in the cell and fills the cell
What is the function of the cell membrane?
Controls the movement of substances into and out of the cell.
What is the function of mitochondria?
The site of aerobic respiration, releasing energy for cell processes
What is the function of ribosomes?
The site of protein synthesis.
What is the function of the cell wall?
Provides support and structure to a cell
What is the function of chloroplasts?
The site of photosynthesis to make food for the plant.
What is the function of the vacuole?
Contains cell sap and helps maintain turgor pressure.
Draw and label an animal cell
Nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, mitochondria and ribosomes.
Draw and label a plant cell
Nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, cell wall, chloroplasts, vacuole and mitochondria.
State two differences between plant and animal cells
Plant cells have a cell wall and chloroplasts, animal cells do not.
whats the difference between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells
eukaryotic cells are larger than prokaryotic
eukaryotic cells contain membrane bound organisms, prokaryotics do not
eukaryotics keep there dna in the nucleus while prokaryotics keep them loose in the cell
for plant, animal and bacteria cells state whether they are eukaryotic or prokaryotic
plant cell - eukaryotic
animal cell - eukaryotic
bacteria cells - prokaryotic
5 organelles found in both plant and animal cells
cell membrane
ribosomes
nucleus
cytoplasm
mitrochondria
where can we find chlorophyll and what does it do
it absorbs light energy for photosynthesis and contains green pigment
found in chloroplast
bacteria cell wall is made of
peptidoglycan
where iand what is the bacteria cells chromosomal dna
a single loop of chromosomal dna that lies free in the cytoplasm
what is the role of a flagellum
to enable movement of cell
draw and label a bacteria cell
,Checklist for drawing: Cell wall, Cell membrane, Cytoplasm, Circular DNA, Plasmid (optional), Ribosomes, Flagella (if present)
whats the difference in flagella and flagellum
flagella is plural
flagellum is singular
plasmids are
additional genes not found in chromosomes
