What happened to Guernica, Spain in 1937?
To prepare for fighting against the Allies in World War II, Germany bombed Guernica on April 26th, 1937, as a trial run. Germany was a part of the Axis Powers and as a nation, they bombed Guernica for practice. \*During this time, the Spain Civil War was also taking place.

Pablo Picasso painted *Guernica*, during the months of May and June in 1937. The Spanish government had paid Picasso to paint a scene to gain the attention of the public for the Republican cause. This painting is also very symbolic and it is structured as a three-part work.
