Metaphor

Onomatopoeia
The formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named. Example: "horns tooting", "bells ringing".
Personification
The attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something nonhuman. Example: vehicles "jostled".
Alliteration
The occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words. Example: "complete flouting" and "common sense".
Euphemism
A mild or indirect word or expression substituted for one considered to be too harsh or blunt when referring to something unpleasant or embarrassing. Example: "his language growing more colourful".
Litotes
Ironic understatement in which an affirmative is expressed by the negative of its contrary. Example: pile up "could have caused problems".
Anarchic
Without any laws or rules, suggesting a state of chaos and disorder.
Volatile
Likely to explode or have a violent reaction; unstable and unpredictable.
