Their own help is ALturism but others are Egoism

What is the Empathy Alturism Theory

When u see someone who needs help u feel their distress empathize with them and help them even w/ nothing to gain

What is Mood Management Theory?

You see someone who needs help and u only help them because u dont want to feel guilty or ad after for not helping

-Egootistical view b/c only focusing on their feelings not the person who actually needs help

2. subjects watvch Elaine get shock 1 outy of the 10 times

   1. High vrs Low Empathy (similar to Elaine/not)

   2. Easy vrs Difficult Escape

• people w/ high empathy helped in both easy and difficult escape

• people w/ low empathy in easy they left but in difficult they helped only b/c they didn’t wana feel bad watching

Kinship selection:Only helping relatives and people close to you to keep ur genes alive and pass them on to next generations

helping ight be genetic because they just do it immidiatly w/o being asked and we also share genetic code with the monkeys and they help aswell

1. helping the person make sthem feel uselss

2. deviates from norms/beliefs (dissonance)

3. helping the person dosent increase ur success and decreases any future benifit

Double Binds in helping behavior what are they?

• Person recieving help Bind:

  • 1 hand —> direct benifit

  • other hand —> Make them feel useless

• Person helping Bind:

  • 1 hand —> dosent wnat to make person feel usless by helping

  • other hand —>feel bad for not helping
