Aim
To investigate which variables play a role in increasing acculturative stress in Asian-Americans and Asian immigrants.
Participants
2095 Asian-Americans and Asian immigrants in the U.S
Half of the sample were first-generation immigrants, the second half second-generation immigrants.
Procedure
Participants were interviewed either face-to-face or online with interviewers of the same background.
Participants’ acculturative stress was measured through questions about language proficiency, language preference, family cohesion, discrimination, social networks and socioeconomic status.
Results
70% of the sample had acculturative stress.

Bilingual preference for English
Limited social networks
Not proficient in either language
Xenophobia/Discrimination/Prejudice
Poor family cohesion
Poor economic status
