Anatomy
The study of the structure and organisms of living things.
Physiology
The study of how the human body or living organisms work when healthy or not.
Cytology
The study and examination of individual or small groups of cells to determine a diagnosis
Histology
The study and examination of tissues and their structure and function which contain different types of cells
Pathology
A medical science that concerns the study and diagnosis of the cause, origin, and nature of disease.
Vertical plane
A plane that passes from head to toes dividing the body into anterior and posterior parts or left and right sections
Horizontal Plane
Also known as the transverse (axial) plane, it divides the body into superior and inferior sections.
Midsagittal Plane
A vertical plane that bisects the body through the midline into two equal parts.
Longitudinal Plane
A vertical plane that passes through the body lengthwise. (sagittal plane)
Coronal Plane
A vertical plane that runs from side to side dividing the body into anterior and posterior parts.
Transverse Plane
A horizontal plane that is perpendicular to the coronal and sagittal planes, parallel to the ground.
