represents the truth, hope, god, good-positive presence

how is dark used in J&H?

represents secrets, lies, hidden identities shameful acts.

how is silence used in J&H?

• people are repeatedly unable to articulate themselves

• language seems to break down over the course of the novella and to fail- in the case of Hyde’s physical appearance there are literally no words because no one or nothing like Hyde has ever existed.

• the rational(language) fails when faced with the irrational (Hyde)
