How can restorative justice be carried out?
Sometimes simple as offender paying compensation to the victim, othertimes both parties give communication via email, letter, call or even face to face.
What environment does restorative justice take place in?
A controlled environment with a mediator who facilitates and oversees communication.
What does restorative justice require for success?
Needs to be a voluntary choice for both parties seeking a postive outcome and respectful not degrading.
What does restorative justice provide a space to talk about?
Impact of the crime, acknowledgement of harm caused, chance to ask questions, control and choice and provides peace of mind for the future.
How might it be challenging and what good comes of it?
Offender has to face consequences for their actions and victim has to relive the experience however they may develop a greater understanding of offender.
What is Wachtel and McCold (2003) framework?
Starting point is focusing on relationships not punishment, for success 3 stakeholders required:
The victim who seeks reparation
The offender who must take responsibility
The community who aim to achieve reconciliation to maintain a healthy society
What is the Peter Woolf example of restorative justice?
he broke into the home of Will Riley in 2002, they had restorative justice where Riley proposed a better life path for Woolf.
How is Esther Ghey a different example of restorative justice?
Her daughter was murdered by classmates but she did not have restorative justice with the murderer but the parent and stated she did not blame the parent for the outcome of their childs actions.
