Three Basic Components of a DNA Nucleotide:

1. Deoxyribose- Sugar

2. Nitrogen Base- pyrimidine or purine (5 different types)

3. Phosphoric Acid- phosphate (negatively charged)

How is Ribose different than Deoxyribose?

Deoxyribose has just a Hydrogen on the 2’ carbon (Missing the oxygen that Ribose had hence “de-oxy-ribose)

• Simple loop structure

• Includes Thymine, guanine, and Uracil (RNA)
