Three Basic Components of a DNA Nucleotide:
Deoxyribose- Sugar
Nitrogen Base- pyrimidine or purine (5 different types)
Phosphoric Acid- phosphate (negatively charged)
How is Ribose different than Deoxyribose?
Deoxyribose has just a Hydrogen on the 2’ carbon (Missing the oxygen that Ribose had hence “de-oxy-ribose)
Purines
Complex Double loop Structure
Includes Adenine and Guanine
Pyrimidines
Simple loop structure
Includes Thymine, guanine, and Uracil (RNA)
