Spermatic Cord
A cord comprised of the vas deferens, cremaster muscle, testicular arteries, pampiniform plexus, nerves, and lymphatic vessels, passing through the inguinal canal.
Vas Deferens
A tube-like structure that transports sperm cells from the epididymis to the ejaculatory ducts.
Cremaster Muscle
A muscle involved in the thermal regulation of the testes, found around the spermatic cord.
Dartos Muscle
A muscle surrounding the testes, important for thermal regulation to maintain the testes at 34 degrees Celsius.
Pampiniform Plexus
A network of blood vessels that drain blood away from the testes, organized as a plexus to cool the blood.
Undescended Testes
A condition where the testes do not descend completely, potentially leading to infertility due to the higher body temperature.
Inguinal Hernia
A condition where an organ or part of an organ protrudes through an opening where it doesn't belong, such as the small intestine through the inguinal canal.
Testicular Torsion
The rotation of the testes, causing pain and blocking blood flow and sperm cell flow.
Varicocele
The varicose veins version for the pampiniform plexus, causing blood to pool around the testes and potentially leading to infertility due to increased temperature.
Testicular Cancer
A cancer that commonly develops in men in their twenties, often requiring gonadectomy (complete removal of the testis) as treatment.
Epididymis
An organ with simple columnar epithelium and stereocilia, responsible for storing and maturing sperm cells.
Vas Deferens (Ductus Deferens)
A muscular tube that transports sperm cells to the ejaculatory ducts through peristalsis, looping around the urinary bladder.
Vasectomy
A birth control method where the vas deferens is cut and tied to prevent sperm cells from reaching the ejaculatory ducts.
Pathway of Sperm Cells (Male)
The seminiferous tubule, epididymis, vas deferens, ejaculatory ducts, and the male urethra.
Pathway of Sperm Cells (Female)
The vagina, cervix, uterus, and fallopian tubes.
Parts of the Male Urethra
Prostatic urethra, membranous urethra, and penile or spongy urethra.
Accessory Glands and Organs
Seminal vesicles, prostate gland, and bulbo-urethral gland.
Semen
Fluid that contains sperm cells and seminal fluids, produced by the seminal vesicles, prostate gland, and bulbo-urethral gland.
Functions of Seminal Fluids
To provide a fluid for sperm cells to swim in, to nourish sperm cells with sugar/fructose, and to neutralize acidity in the male urethra and female vagina.
Prostate Gland
A gland with the ejaculatory duct and prosthetic urethra that contracts during ejaculation to release fluids.
Enlargement of the prostate gland can lead to…
Urinary incontinence because the prostate gland is blocking their prosthetic urethra.
Gonadectomy
Complete removal of the gonad of that testis.
Insertion digit into the rectum
The most effective way in order to test to see if you have prostate cancer
Parts of the Penis
The bulb of the penis, the body of the penis, and the glans penis.
Circumcision
The removal of the foreskin or prepuce.
Erectile Tissues
Corpora cavernosa and corpus spongiosum.
Erections
They have vasodilation of arteries that are going to allow more blood to come into the erectile tissue, and that causes the penis to become more erect.
Viagra
Blood vessel dialtion
Lithotripsy
Use a medical device to shake up the kidney stones, make them vibrate, and cause them to break apart
Gubernaculum
Get shorter and shorter and shorter, it drags along the testes down to testes does it pull
Paratubular capillaries
Paratubular capillaries are found on the renal cortex, and they're going to interact secretion and absorption reabsorption from the convoluted tubules.
Urinary system
Regulation of the amount of water within our blood
Corpora cavernosa as well as corpus spongiosa.
There are two structures that are made up of erectile tissue.
Glomerular ultrafiltrates
We keep calling that ultrafiltrate until it leaves the collecting ducts
Histology Quiz, Lecture Final Date
It is going to be on the same day as your lecture file. The twenty first. Yep. So on the twenty first is your lecture final with the histology produce.
Bilirubin Definition
Bilirubin is where we take hemoglobin and break it into bilirubin.
