Axoneme (axial filament)

The portion of sperm head not covered by the acrosome (between the acrosome and midpiece)

Function of annulus

Separates mid and principle piece, keeps mitochondria contained in the midpiece

What cytoskeleton arrangement is preserved in the sperm tail of most species

9 + 2 → 9 doublets around the outside, and 2 microtubules in the middle
