Mental disorders
Disturbances in thoughts, emotions, behaviors, or functioning.
ICD-11
The International Classification of Diseases, 11th Edition, developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and used globally for public health and clinical practice.
DSM-5
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition, developed by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and widely used in the United States and research.
Neurodevelopmental Disorders
Disorders with onset in childhood, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Intellectual Disability, and Learning Disorders.
Schizophrenia and Other Primary Psychotic Disorders
A category of mental disorders characterized by symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized thinking.
Mood (Affective) Disorders
Disorders that affect emotions and mood regulation, including Depressive Disorders and Bipolar Disorders.
Complex PTSD
A specific stress-related disorder included in the ICD-11 classification but not listed as a separate category in the DSM-5.
Gaming Disorder
A condition included under the category of Substance Use and Addictive Behaviors in the ICD-11.
Personality Disorders
Long-standing, maladaptive personality traits that affect functioning and relationships, such as Borderline or Antisocial Personality Disorders.
Neurocognitive Disorders
Disorders involving cognitive decline, including Dementia, Alzheimer's Disease, and Delirium.
Impulse Control Disorders
A category of disorders including Intermittent Explosive Disorder, Kleptomania, and Pyromania.
Gender Incongruence
The ICD-11 term for gender-related issues, which was moved out of the mental disorders chapter into the sexual health chapter.
Gender Dysphoria
The DSM-5 classification for gender-related distress, which remains categorized under mental disorders.
Neurosis
A mild mental disorder with intact reality testing where the person is usually aware of their condition and daily functioning is affected but not lost.
Psychosis
A severe mental disorder with distorted perception of reality, marked loss of contact with reality, poor insight, and significant impairment in social and occupational functioning.
Organic Mental Disorders
Disorders with a known physical or biological origin that affects brain function, such as Dementia or Brain tumors.
Functional (Psychogenic) Mental Disorders
Disorders with no identifiable physical cause, primarily related to emotional or psychological stress.
Substance-Induced Mental Disorders
Mental health conditions caused by the use of or withdrawal from psychoactive substances like alcohol or drugs.
Somatic Symptom and Related Disorders
Disorders where physical symptoms cannot be fully explained by a medical condition, including Illness Anxiety Disorder.
Dissociative Disorders
Conditions involving a breakdown of memory, identity, or perception, such as Dissociative Amnesia and Dissociative Identity Disorder.
