Government- Whigs believed in strong federal government to shape the economy. Democrats favored a limited government believing in more state rights.

Economic- Whigs supported tariffs, national bank, federal funding to stimulate the economy. Democrats opposed tariffs and a national bank saying that would only help the wealthy man.

Social Issues- Whigs favored social reform like improving prisons, mental hospitals, and education. Democrats also supported reform but focused more on extending rights for the common man.

Democracy- Whigs favored more elite-driven for while Democrats favored a broader participation. Whigs supported business men and Democrats supported the common man.

What is the meaning of reconstruction? who lead it and what are some achievements and failures?

reconstruction refers to the period following the American Civil War when the United States worked to regenerate the confederate states into the union and address the status of formally enslaved people.

President Andrew Johnson led the reconstruction. Who favored the southern states returning to the union with minimal changes however, Congress was Republican controlled which led to many disagreements in Congress took more action.

some achievements were constitutional amendments, public education and the expansion of voting rights constitutional amendments 13th 14th and 15th 13th amendment abolishing slavery 14th amendment granting citizens to all persons born or naturalized in the US and 15th amendment, guaranteeing voting rights, regardless of race the establishment of public education expanded access to education for all, including black children, black men gain the right to vote and hold public office marking a significant shift in the political landscape.

as the Civil War progressed, how did the union win identify at least two key battles in the east and two key battles in the west south as part of your essay.

The union’s victory was due to financial and the strategy of attrition. Financially, the union had an advantage because of a large larger population more manufacturing capacity and more developed transportation systems. This allowed the union to finance the war through taxation bonds and the insurance of greenback while they use the air to wear down the confederate forces. They also use the anaconda plan which would restrict the Confederacy access to vital supplies.

One battle in the east is the battle of Gettysburg, which was the turning point in the war the Confederate under general lee were forced to retreat another battle in the east was the fall of Vicksburg, where stronghold was captured on the Mississippi splitting the confederacy.

The United States went to war against Mexico in the 1846 mainly due to manifest destiny, which is a belief that the US was destined to expand to see there were other causes of the war, like Texas annexation dispute over the border and the instability of the Mexican government

The United States annex Texas in 1845 which Mexico viewed as an active aggression in violation of territorial integrity dispute at the border, arose along the border between Texas and Mexico with the United States, claiming the Rio Grande as the border while Mexico claimed the Nueces river, causing tension to rise. Mexico was experiencing political and economic instability at the time which weekend it’s ability to assist the US expansion.

in the 1830s, there was a surgeon abolition movements because of the horrors of slavery becoming more visible to the public important figures who expose the reality of slavery or William Lloyd, Garrison, Frederick, Douglas, and Harriet Tubman.

William Lloyd Garrison founded the liberator, a newspaper that advocated for the immediate emancipation of all enslaved people. He also helped establish the American anti-slavery society. He fought for the abolition of slavery through his activism and newspaper.

Frederick Douglass was an abolitionist and social activist who escaped slave slavery. He used his experience as a slave as a driving point of why we should abolish slavery, he became a powerful writer who shared his experiences and advocated for abolition and racial equality.

Harriet Tubman was an abolitionist and social activist who traveled to free slaves using the underground railroad. She made 13 rescue missions and rescued about 70 enslaved people.
