U.S Foreign policy which opposed European colonialism in the Western Hemisphere.
Embargo Act-1807
Legislation enacted by congress and authorized by Thomas Jefferson. Prohibited American ships from trading with foreign nations. Led to economic hardship for merchants and was repealed in 1809.

Enforcement of military or naval service on unwilling men through crude and violent methods.
