Religious Pluralism

The coexistence of multiple Christian sects (Catholic, Lutheran, Calvinist, etc.) in 16th–17th century Europe; broke Catholic unity and fueled wars of religion.

Sovereignty

The right of a ruler or state to govern independently; strengthened monarchies and laid the foundation for modern nation-states.

John Wycliffe

English theologian (1320s–1384) who translated the Bible into English; challenged Church control over scripture and foreshadowed Protestant reforms.

Capitalism
