What is a contact-force?

A force that only has an effect/is only applied when two objects are in contact with each other such as friction.

2
New cards

What two things can friction do?

(Friction is the force between two touching objects)

 • Slow things down

 • Make things stay still

3
New cards

What can be used to reduce friction?

Lubricants

4
New cards

How do lubricants help reduce friction?

The water/oil etc. fill in the jagged bumps of objects.

5

"Balanced forces are forces in opposite directions of different sizes"

True or false?

False

Balanced forces are forces in opposite directions of same sizes

6
New cards

What are the effects of balanced forces on an object?

There is no change in motion (i.e. if the object is at rest, it will remain at rest and if it is moving, it will continue to move in the same direction and speed).

7
New cards

What is the equation to work out weight?

mass × gravitational field strength = weight

8
New cards

If Jasmine is 45kg in mass. What is her weight?

450 N

9
New cards

If Heather's weight is 555N, what is her mass?

55.5 Kg

What goes in the question mark?

What goes in the question mark?

Upthrust

11
New cards

What does scalar and vector mean?

 • Scalar - has a size and direction

 • Vector - has a size but no direction

12
New cards

What is speed?

A way of saying how far you can travel in a certain time; scalar quantity.

13
New cards

What are greenhouse gases and fossil fuels?

 • Greenhouse gases: gases in the atmosphere that absorb heat energy and emit back to Earth

 • Fossil fuels: something that is burned to release energy from dead remains of organisms

14
New cards

What are all the energy transfers?

 • Electrical

 • Light

 • Sound

 • Forces

 • Heating

15
New cards

Our main source of energy has to come from somewhere. What is the correct order?

hint - on the first arrow is photosynthesis

Energy transferred from the sun → energy stored in plants (chemical energy) → energy stored in animals

16
New cards

What does m/s stand for?

Metres per second

17
New cards

Using the below formulae, what formula do you use to work out distance?

distance ÷ speed = time

distance ÷ time = speed

speed × time = distance

What are the forces acting on the Jet2holidays plane?

the force arrows are the same size

What are the forces acting on the Jet2holidays plane?

the force arrows are the same size

Air resistance/lift on the up arrow and weight on the down arrow.

19
New cards

Calculate Yahya's speed if he runs 200m in 50s.

4m/s

20
New cards

What are the 3 ways to heat things up?

 1. Radiation

 2. Conduction

 3. Convection

21
New cards

What is the opposite of non-renewable?

(non-renewable resources are resources that will run out such as fossil fuels)

Renewable
