How does osmolarity change in the L.O.H?
descending limb = 300
base = 1200
ascending = 100
What is the descending L.O.H. role?
supplied NaCl to ascending limb and diffuses H2O to increase osmolarity
What is the ascending L.O.H role?
transports NaCl into interstitium to increase concentration inside tubule
What is the role of the Vasa Recta?
set of capillaries around L.O.H
blood down descending loses H2O to interstitial and gains higher NaCl concentration
blood up ascending regains water and loses NaCl
net result = blood brought nutrients to cell w/o washing away gradient
Late filtrate processing in DCT
only occurs in precents of hormones
aldosterone for Na+
ADH for water
