Bradycardia
A condition characterized by a slow heart rate.
Tachycardia
A condition characterized by a fast heart rate.
Cardiomegaly
An enlargement of the heart.
Hypertension
A condition of high blood pressure.
Hypotension
A condition of low blood pressure.
Atrioventricular
Pertaining to the atria and ventricles of the heart.
Heart pacemaker
A device that regulates the heartbeat.
Embolism
A particle that travels through the bloodstream and gets stuck in a vessel, blocking blood flow.
Aneurysm
A weakened wall in a blood vessel that can potentially rupture.
Septum
A wall that divides the left and right sides of the heart.
Capillaries
Tiny, thin-walled blood vessels that drop off oxygen and nutrients and pick up carbon dioxide or waste.
Ventricles
The lower chambers of the heart that pump blood to the arteries.
Endocardium
The inner layer of the heart, smooth and thin, reducing friction as blood passes through chambers.
Myocardium
The thick middle layer of the heart responsible for contraction and pumping blood.
Epicardium
The outer layer of the heart that contains fluid to reduce friction.
Atrium
The upper chambers of the heart that receive blood returning from the veins.
Tricuspid valve
The valve located between the right atrium and right ventricle, consisting of three leaflets.
Mitral valve
The valve located between the left atrium and left ventricle, prevented blood from flowing back into the atrium, also called the bicuspid valve.
Aortic valve
The valve located between the left ventricle and the aorta, preventing blood from flowing back into the ventricle.

The sequence of processes involved in gas exchange in the body, including nasopharynx, oropharynx, and laryngopharynx.
Nasopharynx
The upper section of the pharynx located behind the nasal cavity.
Oropharynx
The middle section of the pharynx located behind the oral cavity.
Laryngopharynx
The lower section of the pharynx located near the larynx.

The relaxation phase of the heart during which it expands and fills with blood.
Systole
The contraction phase of the heart during which it pumps blood out.
