Beta 2-adrenergic agonists:
albuterol
mechanism of action
-activate the beta 2 receptors in the bronchus resulting in bronchodilation leading to 🇦 relief of bronchospasm
inhibition of histamine release
increased ciliary motility
Drug class:
short acting beta 2- adrenergic agonist
-this medication activates bet 2 receptors located in bronchus (airways) it activates these receptors in lungs to relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle
-this med treats bronchospasms but has no anti-inflammatory properties
therapeutic use:
Prevention of exercised induced asthma (inhaled short acting)
Long term control of asthma
Bronchospasm
-inhaled albuterol is first in line drug with onset used for the relief of acute asthma symptoms, including bronchospasm
Complications
Tachycardia: cardiovascular side effect uses to activation of alpha 1 receptors in heart
Tremors: musculoskeletal side effect
