What is the color wheel?
A twelve hour color system developed by Louis Prancy.
What are the primary colors?
Red, yellow, and blue.
What are the secondary colors?
Orange, green, and violet.
What are the tertiary colors?
Red-orange, red-violet, blue-violet, yellow-green, and yellow-orange.
What are chromatic colors?
Colors visible from the spectrum that have both hue and chroma; all colors other than black, white, and gray.
What are advancing colors?
Warm colors composed of red or yellow.
What are receding colors?
Cool colors composed of blue and green.
Which colors do not appear on the color wheel?
White, black, and gray.
What are neutral colors?
Achromatic colors with a small amount of hue added; colors other than black, white, and gray.

White, black, and gray.

What is a hue?
The descriptive name of color; a pure color without white or black added.
What is intensity?
The maximum amount of light reflected back to the viewer's eye; not mixed with black, white, or gray.
What is tint?
A hue that has been lightened by the addition of white; pastel colors.
What is gray scale?
A visual aid that represents the translation of value from black to white.
What is color?
The visual response to eyes reflected rays of light.
What is shade?
A hue that has been darkened by the addition of black.
What is saturation?
The measure of the intensity or brightness of color; describing the amount of light reflecting from it.
What is tone?
A hue that has been muted by the addition of white; appears pastel.
What is pigment?
A substance used to provide color to paint, dyes, and materials.
What is value?
The lightness of a hue, which can include black, white, or gray.

A grouping of different values of one hue.

A pair of hues directly opposite each other on the color wheel.

A trio of hues consisting of a hue and the two hues on either side of its direct complement.
