League of Nations
An international organization formed after World War I to promote peace and cooperation among countries.
Expansionism
A policy aimed at extending a country's territory or influence, often by territorial or economic means.
Fascism
A political system characterized by authoritarianism, nationalism, and the subordination of individual rights to the interests of the state.
Abyssinia
The historical name for Ethiopia, which Italy attempted to invade and conquer in the 1930s.
Treaty of Versailles
The treaty that ended World War I and established the League of Nations.
Self-sufficient
The ability of a country or region to produce everything it needs without requiring external assistance.
Great Depression
A severe worldwide economic downturn that took place during the 1930s.
Malaria
A mosquito-borne infectious disease that was a concern during the early 20th century.
Plebiscite
A direct vote in which an entire electorate is invited to vote on a particular proposal, often related to changes in territory or governance.
Collective security
A system in which a group of nations acts as one to preserve the peace of all.
