Why did the Peasants work the land?
So they can get an exchange for protection but they had very few rights.
Why did the Knights work?
So they could get land which in return they would do protection and further military service.
What did the king (William) do in the Feudal system?
He divided the land into fiefs and gave them to the Barons.
Why did the Barons work?
So they could get land which in return would give loyalty and military service.
What was the purpose of the Feudal system?
So that William could rule a kingdom by delegating power to Barons. This created a clear system of obligations where everyone owned something to their superior
What was good about the Feudal system?
Castles made it harder for the English to rebel and introduced new military architecture like stone keeps. They also became central to many towns and cities.
What was bad about the Feudal system?
In some areas, castles were less important once peace was established, and many eventually became ruins or lost their military purpose.
