• describes the percentage of data values that fall at or below another data value

• this regard that Q1 & Q3 is also described as percentile

• first numerically order the data

• to find the 50th percentile, we just find the median of the data points

• 50% of the data points are as small or smaller

• 50% of the data points are as large or larger

If someone scores 75th percentile, we can say?

They beat 75 percent of the class

do not confuse percentage with percentile

• A percentile tells you your relative position in a group.

• The 90th percentile means you scored better than 90% of people.

• It doesn’t tell you how much you scored, just where you stand compared to others.
