Strength Testing
The process of evaluating an individual's maximum strength level to assist in designing a strength training program.
One Repetition Maximum (1 RM)
The maximum amount of weight that a person can lift for a single repetition with proper form.
Multiple Repetition Maximum
The maximum weight that can be lifted for multiple repetitions until volitional fatigue is reached.
Intensity
The level of effort or load applied during strength training, often expressed as a percentage of the 1 RM.
Recovery
The process of returning to a baseline state following injury or exertion, which can be assessed through strength testing.
Training Load Chart
A table used to estimate 1 RM values and prescribe training intensities based on the number of repetitions completed.
Warm-Up
Preliminary exercises aimed at preparing the muscles and neuromuscular system for strength testing.
Supersets
A training method where alternating exercises are performed for opposing muscle groups without rest.
Drop Sets
A training technique where a set is performed to failure, followed immediately by additional sets at lower weights.
Reps in Reserve
A method to gauge training intensity by determining how many repetitions can be completed beyond the prescribed set.
