look for AOCs and determine steel/AL riser

* ask for examples and include check for sources of ignition

what identifies the riser as AL?

1. transition point that include a Crimp, shoulders, or weld

2. Coating: FBE or Tru Coat

3. Locate wire

4. ID Ring (bunny ears)

5. Sleeve: grey, green, or black

6. Weed wacker sleeve

How do u know ur electrical test is working?

check tester at electrical panel or any outlet - at least once a day

How many times do leak test the riser and where?

1. at least 2 times a day (before working on and after the final cleaning)

2. Above, at, and below service valve and riser 1st soap - anything u clean - 2nd soap

What must u find before u can do any work on an AL riser?

Transition Point

What r the minimum requirements to install a wax pad?

1. 1/2 below crimp, shoulder or weld

2. 1/2 inch of good coating

1. What does the No Go gauge check for?

2. Where do u gauge?

1. checks for metal loss on gas carrying nipple

2. gauge from the transition point to the bottom of service valve

What makes an AL riser low in earth or paving?

1. transition point @ or below grade

2. SLP - transition is at or below grade

3. SLE - bottom hex of S/C is at or below grade

1. When do u need to install an MRV?

2. How much space do u leave between the MRV and Service valve?

1. install when transition is below grade

2. 1/2 to 1 inch

When applying more than one wax pad where do u start the application?

use bottom up application overlapping 1 inch

1. When is a composite required?

2. What is the Min and Max measurement for a Composite installation?

1. when riser fails gauge and/or has thru wall steel casing corrosion

2. min: 5 inches - max: 8 inches

Can u composite if there is a by-pass?

no

How much good coating do u need for a composite?

1 inch of good coating

What r u required to do if u find a leak?

take a pic and notify inspector

what r u required to do if u find a steel riser?

take pic and notify inspector

what is the measurement to turn the riser in for shallow service?

Policy: 18 inches

Inland Requirement: 15 inches

what do u do when u find an EFV tag?

remove and replace w/ a new tag when complete

when do u extend the locate wire?

only when installing an MRV

if the riser has failed gauge 360 degrees, what is the next step?

notify inspector for instruction of next steps required

do we inspect risers that have no meter attached?

yes

What must u verify from the contractor?

1. verify contractor is fluent when talking to customers

2. verify contractor is proficient using tablet (leak box)

3. verify contractor is using required PPE (protective equipment)

4. verify contractor separates trash from hazardous materials
