Rheumatic Fever
A disease that follows a group A streptococcal infection, characterized by inflammatory cardiac manifestations.
Assessment Findings of Rheumatic Fever
Mild fever, rapid heart rate, abnormal rhythm, red spotty rash, swollen joints, heart murmur, and pericardial friction rub.
Infective Endocarditis
Inflammation of the inner layer of heart tissue often caused by microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi.
Osler nodes
Painful, raised lesions on the hands and feet associated with infective endocarditis.
Myocarditis
Inflammation of the heart muscle layer caused by infections, leading to symptoms resembling myocardial infarction.
Cardiomyopathy
A disease of the heart muscle that affects its ability to pump blood effectively; includes three types: dilated, hypertrophic, and restrictive.
Pericarditis
Inflammation of the pericardium, with potential complications including cardiac tamponade.
Virchow's Triad
A set of three factors that contribute to thrombosis: venous stasis, altered blood coagulation, and trauma to the blood vessel.
Buerger's Disease
An inflammatory condition affecting the blood vessels of the legs, primarily associated with smoking.
