The primary regarding for or devotion to the interest of patients/clients, thus assuming the fiduciary responsibility of placing the needs of the patient/clients ahead of the PT’s self interest.

PT practice that consistently uses current knowledge & therapy while understanding personal limits, integrates judgement & the patient/client perspective, embraces advancement, challenges mediocrity, & works toward development of new knowledge.
Excellence
Steadfast adherence to high ethical principals or professional standards; truthfulness, fairness, doing what you say you will do, & “speaking forth” about why you do what you do.
Integrity
The commitment to meeting one’s obligations to provide effective PT services to patients/clients, to serve the profession, & to positively influence the health of society.
Professional Duty
Is the promotion of a mutual trust between the profession & the larger public that necessitates responding to societal needs for health & wellness.

Doing the best for the patient.

Doing what’s best for the patient.

Requires a healthcare provider to maintain privacy by not sharing or divulging to a 3rd party privileged or entrusted patient information.
Confidentiality
Involves recognizing, interpreting, & framing ethical situations.
Mortal Sensitivity
Requires deciding on right vs. wrong actions
Moral Judgement
Places a priority on ethical values over other values such as self interest or financial gain; professionalism is a primary “motivator” for ethical behavior.
Moral Motivation
Implementing the chosen ethical action including the development of a plan & perseverance in the face of barriers & adversity.
