Major Depressive Episode (MDE)
A period of at least 2 weeks of depressed mood or anhedonia plus 4 or more symptoms.
Manic Episode
A period of at least 1 week characterized by elevated or irritable mood, impairment, and possibly psychosis.
Hypomanic Episode
A period of at least 4 days that is less severe than mania and does not cause marked impairment.
MDD (Major Depressive Disorder)
A diagnosis requiring at least one Major Depressive Episode without any history of mania or hypomania.
Persistent Depressive Disorder (PDD)
A chronic form of depression lasting for at least 2 years.
Bipolar I Disorder
A diagnosis that includes at least one manic episode.
Bipolar II Disorder
A diagnosis involving at least one hypomanic episode and one Major Depressive Episode.
Cyclothymic Disorder
A condition featuring at least 2 years of hypomanic and depressive symptoms without full episodes.
PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder)
A disorder characterized by symptoms such as intrusive memories and hyperarousal lasting for more than one month after trauma.
Acute Stress Disorder
A disorder with symptoms similar to PTSD but lasting from 3 days to 1 month following a trauma.
Adjustment Disorder
Emotional or behavioral symptoms that occur in response to a stressor and arise within 3 months, causing disproportionate distress.
Prolonged Grief Disorder
A condition characterized by persistent grief lasting at least 12 months in adults and 6 months in children.
Trauma-focused CBT
A therapeutic approach that involves exposure and reprocessing of trauma-related memories.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
A therapy technique designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories.
Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)
A disorder featuring two or more distinct personality states, memory gaps, and significant distress or impairment.
Dissociative Amnesia
A condition characterized by an inability to recall important personal information, typically after a traumatic event.
Depersonalization/Derealization Disorder
A disorder involving persistent detachment from oneself (depersonalization) or from one’s surroundings (derealization).
