Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN)
A test that can reveal whether the urea nitrogen levels are higher than normal, suggesting kidney or liver dysfunction.
Normal BUN Level
7-20 mg/dL
Creatinine
A nitrogen-containing waste product of metabolism excreted by the kidneys; high levels indicate poor kidney filtration.
Normal Creatinine Level
0.84-1.21 mg/dL
Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR)
A measure of kidney function and stage of kidney disease; helps determine treatment.
Normal GFR Level
90-120 mL/min/1.73m2
Hemoglobin
A protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen; measured to assess the amount of hemoglobin in blood.
Normal Hemoglobin Level (Males)
13.8-17.2 g/dL or 138-172 g/L
Normal Hemoglobin Level (Females)
12.1-15.1 g/dL or 121-151 g/L
Red Blood Cells (RBCs)
Cells that contain hemoglobin and carry oxygen; their count affects tissue oxygenation.
Normal RBC Count (Males)
4.7-6.1 cells/mcL
Normal RBC Count (Females)
4.2-5.4 cells/mcL
Platelets
Components of blood that help with clotting; their count is essential for normal clotting function.
Normal Platelet Count
150,000-400,000 platelets/mcL
Oxygen Saturation (O2)
The measure of how much oxygen red blood cells are carrying.
Normal O2 Saturation Range
95%-100%
Prothrombin
A blood test that measures the time it takes for the liquid portion of your blood to clot.
