Virginia: Roanoke Island Walter Raleigh & John White
Walter Raleigh went from England to Roanoke island and brang about 100 colonists with him. They ran out of food, and eventually went back.

John Smith also led a group to Roanoke Island. The settlers suffered from food shortage & the American Indian attacks. John White came from England back 3 years later to get supplies, but to his surprise all the settlers were gone.

Jamestown was located at a river near Chesapeake Bay. The Jamestown location choice was poor because the land was swampy & muddy. It also had mosquitoes that carried malaria.
