Ethernet
The most popular networking standard that enables connectivity between devices within a wired network.
IEEE 802.3
A committee of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers responsible for designing and documenting Ethernet standards.
1000BASE-T
A Gigabit Ethernet network standard that operates over twisted-pair copper cabling at a speed of 1 gigabit per second.
10GBASE-T
A 10 Gigabit Ethernet network standard using twisted-pair copper cabling, operating at a speed of 10 gigabits per second.
1000BASE-SX
A Gigabit Ethernet network standard that utilizes fiber optics and operates at a speed of 1 gigabit per second.
baseband
A term used in Ethernet standards indicating that a single frequency is used to send data over the network.
broadband
A method of communication that uses many different frequencies across a network as opposed to a single frequency.
twisted-pair copper
A type of cabling used in Ethernet networks capable of supporting various standards and speeds - signified by the letter T.
fiber optics
A medium used in Ethernet networks that provides high-speed data transmission via light signals - signified by the letter F.
SX
An additional designation in Ethernet standards indicating the use of short wavelength light sent over fiber optic connections.
