North Pole
The end of a magnet that is typically marked in red and is attracted to the Earth's geographic North.
South Pole
The end of a magnet that is typically marked in blue and is attracted to the Earth's geographic South.
Magnetism
The force exerted by magnets when they attract or repel each other.
Attract
The force by which one magnet pulls another magnet or a magnetic object toward itself.
Repel
The force by which like poles of magnets push each other away.
Magnetic Materials
Materials that are attracted to magnets, such as steel and iron.
Non-Magnetic Materials
Materials that are not attracted to magnets, such as wood and plastic.
Dual Poles
All magnets have two poles: a north pole and a south pole.
Uses of Magnets
Magnets are used in various applications, including electric motors and cranes.
Example of Magnetic Material
An example of a magnetic material is steel.
Example of Non-Magnetic Material
An example of a non-magnetic material is wood.
Magnet Shape
Magnets come in various shapes, including bar and horseshoe.
Electromagnet
A type of magnet whose magnetic field is produced by an electric current.
Force of Attraction
The force that pulls magnetic materials toward a magnet.
Force of Repulsion
The force that pushes like poles of magnets away from each other.
